| Teifi
Timber Products Ltd owes its origins to a Builders Merchant company- T.
L. Thomas & Son, which is run by the founder's son Brian
Thomas and his wife Sian.
In 1968, they bought the site of the local Estate Sawmill at Maesycrugiau, which housed a diesel engine powered mill in a Nissen Hut. So outdated was the mill, that there seemed doubts about its survival, but finding a complete sawmill advertised they bought it and the entire mill was moved from its Dorset location and installed in Maesycrugiau by the end of the year. The initial three employees became six, production increased and trading was extended to cover Wales, plus most of South West and North West England and the Midlands A Rentokil Wood Treatment Plant was purchased in 1974, and a manufacturing unit was opened to utilize fully the products of the sawmill. In the same year Teifi Timber Products became a Limited Company. The need to maintain a cost effective operation prompted many changes; new plant and machinery was installed over a period of time and existing equipment updated. A new building was erected in 1982 and the latest changes to the plant made in 1988 involving a complete new and fully linked computerised system at a cost of some one million pounds. As production and trade increased, the number of employees grew to its present level of forty. By
this time both son Gerwyn and daughter Eleanor had entered the family business
and with their active participation a further ten acres of adjoining land
has been purchased to ensure the controlled future expansion of Teifi Timber
Products.
